Continued From Home Page As she ends her tour of the garden, the pride and respect that her father, Herman, has for his little girl can be felt. "I wish I had more of her attributes; it would definitely make me a better person. Just think what it could do for the rest of the world," says the proud dad. Ouma says Monique has helped her in the garden and showed an interest from a very young age..... They may have..... They may have broken windscreens and dented cars, but Monique’s vegetables were safe, and according to her family, she celebrated this fact with a dance. When she grows up, Monique says she wants to be a garden girl, or a horticulturist as ouma corrects. She wants to travel the world and learn about all the different fruits and vegetables, and see how different cultures grow their plants. It is the appreciation for the simple things in life that make Monique an extraordinary child. She started her own.... She started her own garden two months ago, and over the past three weeks her vegetables have come into their own. There was a scare when the first hail fell, and the vegetables did require some tender love and care to recuperate. Since then though, Monique’s grandfather has helped to put up shade cloth, to protect her plants from future storms. The shade cloth came in handy in October when hailstones the size of golf balls fell..... My ouma Marie van der Merwe and me. Ouma says I have helped her in the garden and showed an interest from a very young age. My dad and me. "I wish I had more of her attributes; it would definitely make me a better person.
